SEPTEMBER 22 & 23 (Saturday 8 pm & Sunday 7 pm)

Joan Laage will remount "White Sanctuary", originally created as a trio with Kristine Knutson and Appalachia Martine for New City/New Dance Festival in 1996. "White Sanctuary" has been performed as a solo at The MAC in Dallas, as a project based site-specific work in London, and as a quintet by the University of Georgia dance company. The sound score was composed by Tucker Martine of Mount Analog and original stage design was created by visual artist Louise Hoeschen. Inspired by the words "white" and "sanctuary", the work is a meditation on an Antarctic landscapeof merging, endless space and time, andan honoring of the peace, insight, and sanctuary that we experience through being inspired by great artists and their art. The final section, a tribute to Butoh master Kazuo Ohno, was created especially for an evening at Dance Centre Seattle in which artists of different disciplines presented works inspired by the word "faith".
